It's SO sad! Fab channel has introduced me to many new artists. It's just extremely sad that they are ceasing operations in about one week from now.

The River Walk Gig

We played a gig at the River Walk in Breckenridge. Here is my 9 year old nephew starting us off on "Red Haired Boy." We played bluegrass and blues for two hours and everyone involved had a good time.



Here is our second song "Blackberry Blossom." Fun stuff... I'm the guy in the white shirt and baseball hat playing my Martin D18GE.

Richie Havens

I saw Richie Havens last night in Breckenridge at the River Walk Center. What an amazing performer. I was able to shake his hand after the show and his gentle, kind nature, which comes through in his music, was apparent in person as well.

"Keep It Together (Live)," John West

John West is a new artist that I found at a new (to me) site called "TheSixtyOne." It's a cool site design because the music keeps playing as you click through.

I don't know much about John West, except that I really like his vibe on this song. What else do I really need to know? Try it you like it.

"Over the Rainbow," Eva Cassidy

There are many notable versions of this song, including: the original from The Wizard of Oz soundtrack by Judy Garland, a live version by Eric Clapton and a famous ukulele version by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. But, this is my favorite.

Eva Cassidy's wiki page explains her sad and remarkable story. She died in 1996 of cancer and was not "discovered" until after she was gone. Her album Songbird reached #1 on the UK charts in 2001. Listen to this and you will understand why.

In 2001, her album reached number 1 in the UK charts after the BBC television show Top Of The Pops 2 aired a video of Eva performing Over The Rainbow at Blues Alley. It became the most requested video ever shown of Top Of The Pops 2 despite the fact it was just a homemade video made by somebody watching Eva perform.

I was introduced to Bauer on Fabchannel. I was mesmerized by their amazing concert in Amsterdam with the Metropole Orchestra. What a beautiful, creative event.



This group is the Dutch duo Bauer, easily confused with the Myspace Bauer which has an EP and a song called Connected. Sadly, U.S. iTunes doesn't carry "Blissfully Up," but the Dutch iTunes does. I can recommend Bouillabaise of Brilliance though.

"I've Got My Mojo Working," Muddy Waters

There's nothing like Muddy Waters live. The man had wicked mojo on stage that comes through in this classic recording. There are two versions of this song on the album. I like the second one (song 8, 2:56). The band did two takes of the song back to back because the crowd loved it. Check out the scream at around 1:50 into the song. In the clip you can see what produced the scream-- Muddy starts dancing with a man on stage (5:43). This take is looser-- more the way I imagine Muddy would have done it on Maxwell Street in Chicago or in a delta juke joint.

I was introduced to Cubworld on Fabchannel. If you've never checked out this awesome live music resource, I suggest you try it. Cubworld is the type of guy you just want to give a big hug to. As a vocalist, he has the rare ability to convey very personal themes in a way that is sensitive without being sappy.

Watching this clip is almost voyeuristic as Cubworld almost doesn't make it through the song. He breaks up when the lyrics touch on the people who've "walked through his life."

This live version of Shaking The Tree is awesome. It features Paula Cole on vocals. I think it's cool when a live version of a song takes it to a new level. Maybe becuase of the subject matter of the song, Cole's voice brings balance. Enjoy.
